A Unique Geometric Gem Reclaims its Former Elegance
Through a welcoming new entrance, a celebration of existing character and the introduction of new functions, the distinctive city block Vinkelhaken 9 is set to shine for many years to come. The restored entrance position — with a glazed passage facing Kungsgatan/Drottninggatan — opens up the blue-listed 1915 building, originally designed by architect Erik S Josephson.
Beyond restoring the octagonal stairwell and original floors, stepped mouldings and plinths have been carefully recreated. The aim is to deliver functional offices that meet contemporary demands while bringing the building's cultural and historical qualities to the fore, developed in close consultation with a heritage specialist. The design takes its cues from the building's own architectural grammar — generous glazing, slender steel profiles and characteristic geometries that are echoed and amplified in new floors and ceilings.
Practical interventions including a new lift, restored dormer windows and the relocation of plant rooms allow for better use of floor area throughout. The new roof terrace, discreetly tucked against the courtyard, offers tenants something quietly special — entirely in keeping with the building's refined and considered character.
