Resenären

The Future Office Building

Marge Arkitekter was invited together with Vasakronan as one of four offices to participate in the design competition for Resenären, a new office building by the central transportation hub at the center of Uppsala. It will stand as a clear landmark at the entrance to Uppsala. The sculptural latticework of the facade echoes the triangular form of the plaza and the crossing rail tracks to create a characteristic architecture for Uppsala’s central station while also standing at the forefront of environmental innovation with plus energy capability.

The construction core, with three points of elevator access per floor, allows for a highly flexible plan. The concrete floor slabs are a lightweight construction optimized to balance energy efficiency with acoustic performance and with integrated ventilation and lighting. Flexibility is implicit in the installations to enable future tenants to find specific plan solutions. The floor plan is principally open but can be subdivided up to 6 different offices depending on changing demands in Uppsala.

One of the primary guiding questions during the planning of Resenären was the aspect of sustainability. The focus has been on both the building’s operations and how its users can be enabled to contribute to a resilient society. The building is already being planned from the early stages to become a LEED platinum plus energy building.
