Bonniers Konsthall

Refurbishment of a public art gallery

In this project Marge was tasked with the expansion of exhibition halls together with a restructuring of the circulation scheme and the devising of more effective administrative spaces.

A primary aim of the remodeling was a clearer articulation of the entrance from the city street. Now the entrance has been made more open and leads more directly to the reception, shop, and café. The space is characterized by reflective aluminum, glass, and mirrors which reflect the activity of the city street and bring views of the surrounding greenery into the main space.

The exhibition halls have been spatially defined more clearly with nested rooms standing in contrast to penetrating spaces which bring light into the galleries where they become an informal part of the public street. It has also been a main point to make the rooms adaptable such that they can host events and gatherings in addition to their daily use. In the entrance room and museum shop we have worked with adjustable walls of shelves that open up into adjustable displays and movable furniture. They can also be closed down and tucked away to create a different space.

The interior design builds on the existing muted color scheme that is meant to put forward the colors of the artwork. Focus was also placed on tactile material quality which gives a soft warm texture in contrast to the existing glass, aluminum, and concrete.
