25 Terraced Houses in Silverdal

The Mundering neighborhood at Silverdal in Sollentuna contains 25 two-story terraced houses in three different typologies and sizes.

The houses take a contextualized form that respects the existing pitched roof-scape and long prominent barn house volumes with metal roofs. There is a two-part expression to the terraced houses: A well-defined ground level with wooden fences and trellises gives a cohesive character to the gardens and entrances while the second level of the houses takes on its own color and pattern through a timber lap panel that transitions into a complimentary banded metal pattern in the roofing material.

Each house type has its own color, rust-red, moss green, and brown, each of which relates to colors already found in original buildings of the area. Each house type is unique with its own floor plan and a variety of balcony and entrance solutions which are sometimes inset. The public streetscape is given character by the varied facade materials and orientations which are unified by defined sightlines at the ground level. One side of the street is dominated by the long moss-green roofs sitting at the boundary of the street while the houses opposite are drawn back behind their green gardens giving light and space to the street. The houses on both sides of the street face nature parks to their backsides where the window placement is more playful than the more rule-bound front side.
