Majelden Care Home

Care Home in Linköping – Invited Competition

Nature is a root theme in this proposal where fantastic surroundings give the plot its finest qualities, partly as an experienced quality within the home itself but also from the ability to readily visit the outdoors. The design, placement and planning of the building are devised to provide the optimum exchange between the building and the existing landscape. Majelden’s care home meets the site both socially and with a proper scale. For example, a space is proposed that adapts its use both as a meeting place and a play space to accommodate both families with children and the elderly in a way that enables various elderly groups to integrate. The scale of the building is broken up in two volumes at different angles and heights following the terrain. In this way the connection to the ground is optimized. The space between gives a natural entrance to the home that also becomes the core of the building connected to the common rooms. From here one can either reach the common garden or enter the gallery, spa, conference room or the green roof terrace.
