Bro Library

Strategy and Interior for the Brohuset Library

Brohuset is a complex that brings together a library with a swimming pool, café, and a service center. With activities that occasionally overlap like bookshelves and newsstands in a café or clearly defined boundaries like the admittance gate of the swimming hall, it was a prime goal that the project created clarity and distinctiveness within the cultural center. Therefore, walls have been intentionally oriented with an overarching clarity that helpfully directs the user. As a unifying object for the various activities a reception desk is situated at the node where the spaces and functions of the Swimming pool, library, and customer service center intersect. This node is placed at the center of the complex and bears a characteristic expression where form meets function.

As a unifying theme of the interior design we chose to work with script patterns combining letters, rune symbols, Arabic script etc. Letters have a special relevance in a library but they also connect to Uppland-Bro’s multicultural society and the Norse runes found in the area. The scripts are expressed through patterns on the walls and floors and as sculptures near the reception.
